If someone is suffering and terminal, I see no problem. Even if they become addicted, if they have a few months or less to live, it’s not going to wreck their lives.

Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s outdated. Aspirin is very old, and it is still saving lives.

I agree they are misused, however, there are some pains (like those from cancer or nerve damage) that are so severe you need a powerful drug. And much of the damage they do to lives and families is caused by misuse.

Sorry to say I’ve worked in and around health jobs for a good
part of my life cause I wanted to help people.
No more except volunteer work. Health care is business and money. “period”

People waiting to go to dentist in 2 days get oxycontin
percocets plus refills for tooth pain. Insurance will only cover a
30-60 pill count and we wonder why its on the streets being sold
as a drug.

Oxyconting IS new technology. Moreover, I don’t know where you live, but I’ve never met anybody whose life was ruined by Oxycontin or methadone. Almost all the people I’ve met who got into a mess with these drugs were already messed up. Long-acting narcotics are a real boon to people who are in intractible, chronic pain. Used properly, those drugs allow people who can’t function to lead near-normal lives. The fact that there are a lot of fools out there who will misuse something does not detract from its usefulness. And people who insist on abusing drugs will abuse them, though the choice of which drugs tends to follow certain fashions and availability.
