Stopping Methadone

Methadone; an addicts cure?

It’s sad knowing that some people have to make the choice to start Methadone. Methadone, at first may seem like a easy way out of addiction but in the long run can be dangerous. When first starting the drug of choice, many don’t see the long term effect of of there abuse, that ends quick. Sickness is a daily thing for opiate abusers. When deciding to get sober there are few choices, and both seem like miracles. Today, we will tell you the bare truth of the both drugs from a former user of these drugs. NOTE: This is not MEDICAL ADVICE!. I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL I JUST HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE.

Methadone

Methadone was great when first started. It all seemed simple, you walk into the clinic get your dose, talk to your counselor and maybe go to a meeting if you feel like it. The thing is that most people first getting sober do not quit all drugs (i.e. drinking or marijuana) and can be kicked out of the clinic for using these. There is good reason for this because consuming alcohol while on methadone could lead to death. There is a big rumor that clinics want to keep you on methadone for the rest of your life, and I am not sure if that is true or not. They do, obviously, receive money as long as you are there.

THIS SHOULD BE NOTED. Methadone is stronger than most drugs you were on before, including heroin. Addiction rate is very very high and should be taken into consideration that you may be on this drug for the rest of your life.

Suboxone

Suboxone, depending on where you live, could be hard to track down. Only few doctors can actually prescribe the drug and if you live in a smaller state (like Minnesota) you may find yourself searching afar just to find a doctor to prescribe it. Suboxone, to say the least, is very expensive. The drug itself does not seem very strong but for someone addicted to pills, it would work out very well. Suboxone is a tablet that is placed under the tongue and dissolved. A main complaint of the drug is that it does not work all through the days. Consult your doctor when thinking of this option to see if you qualify.
