Here's What It Felt Like When I Quit Heroin
Business Insider Australia
I tried to get off of the drug via the methadone clinic to no avail. I would go to the clinic for a while and do well, but would always end up with a needle in my vein within a few months. I don't think the clinics are set up to help people quit using

Methadone and Oral Surgery?

Question by Lolita: Methadone and oral surgery?
I need to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed, and will be put under general anesthesia. I’m currently on a methadone maintenance program. I’m taking 65 mg liquid methadone daily, but decreasing dosage by 5 mg daily. In a perfect world, I’d be off the methadone completely before surgery, but I think more realistically, I’ll be taking about 30-40 mg daily. My dentist doesn’t know I’m taking this yet, but I do plan to tell him well in advance of the surgery. Does anyone have any experience taking methadone and being put under general anesthesia? What about pain management afterwards? Is there anything I could suggest to my dentist? Assuming he won’t understand treating pain with someone who is on methadone maintenance.

“Recovering” From Vicodin but Really Have a Legit Back Problem..?

Question by PandaBear22904: “Recovering” from vicodin but really have a legit back problem..?
I guess I should give a back story first..
I was on pain meds (roboxin, darvocet then vicodin) on and off for about 10 years (im 23) for an injury I got from some bullies in 7th grade.. My mother passed away in 2007 and my psychical pain was increased by emotional pain and suddenly I was taking up to 16 vicodin a day. To be honest I wasn’t taking it for the feeling. The pain was so intense that I kept taking more and more.. I come from a family of addicts so as soon as I started to feel it was a problem, I sought help. Last year (10/17/08) I started on Suboxone, had a bad reaction then a month later got on Subutex, 8mg a day. Its a year later and im still on this medication but down to 4mg a day.

For Ex-Addicts to Pain Meds?

Question by Moon: For ex-addicts to pain meds?
For an addict of pain meds, if something happened and pain medication was needed…how would that be handled?

I’m not an addict but I’m watching that TV show “Intervention” and was wondering what would happen? Could an ex-addict to pain meds be administered them if needed?

They would try to keep the person as comfortable as possible on nonnarcotic pain relievers and if worse came to worse the patient would be heavily monitored.

When Is It Not Healthy to “Tolerate the Pain”?

Question by Lilliana: When is it not healthy to “Tolerate the pain”?
I don’t like taking medicine… I avoid it as much as possible… are you like this? Is it dangerous at some point in time?

BESIDES the obvious if it’s fatal incidents (shot, burning, etc) for those who were about to give a smart-butt answer

I agree on the medicines and I have been tolerating pain for about 2 years now since an accident. I have prescription pain meds but I don’t like to take them. I tolerate the pain up until the point where it is debilitating and then I have to do something about it.. now if I am at home.. then I will just curl up.. if I am out that isn’t an option and I will have to take the med. I do notice that after several days of really bad pain my moods aren’t so happy and my mental status is probably on the verge of snapping and I am slower in my reflexes.. so that probably isn’t healthy.. But is taking the meds healthier? I don’t know.

I hate to say it, but it looks like you have developed a sensitivity to the drug.

You might want to discuss the possibility with your doctor, and possibly find another analgesic like tramadol
