Our View: Maine drug policy puts two generations at risk
Maine is one of the hubs of prescription-painkiller abuse in the United States, so it's no surprise that high adult opiate addiction rates have led to an increase in drug-dependent newborns. More than 160 Maine newborns were affected by drugs in 2005 …

That’s a surprisingly common pattern, and I dare say methadone clinics are nothing but money making machines for many of their patients. There are methadone users who’ve been “in treatment” for decades. All that to say, some people genuinely intend to utilize it for weaning off and away from opioids. An ethical treatment center would call her on her misuse, but since it’s often part of the addiction, kicking her out would also be the wrong thing to do.

What Is Better? Subxone or Methadone?

Question by stevies.beloved: What is better? Subxone or Methadone?
I am having problems finding a good medication for my addiction to dilaudid. Can anyone out there help me?

Best answer:

Answer by Christy SD Nurse
Doctors vary in their reasoning as to what is best. In my experience as a nurse at a treatment facility is that Subxone is the way to go. However it needs to be taken correctly, twice a day, and with a tapering schedule over about 7-10 days..no cheating…it is hard to do this on your own. You are still going to be miserable and have intense cravings. Your body must be clear of opiates before beginning the treatment or you will get very sick.

Methadone Addictions: Who Thinks That Dr. Drew Is Full of It?

Question by James Casey: Who thinks that Dr. Drew is full of it?
I’ve seen addiction up close and personal (my family was full of alcoholics and drug addicts and now I work with recovering addicts) for almost 2 decades and Dr. Drew has to be the worst addiction “specialist” I’ve seen. Out of his “celebrity” patients, how many are sober now? Two or three out of more than twenty? That’s not a good success rate. And the way he allows the patients in Sober House to treat Jennifer is very wrong because he’s giving them no structure because everytime Jennifer makes a decision, he or his staff go against her thus she has no authority. Mike Starr does not belong in a sober house. He is still detoxing from methadone and he needs to be in a controlled environment. And Kari-Ann needs to be an institution. She’s got a serious mental issue.
