Question by Super Dez: Parents : What would you do?
OK this really knocked me out of the water. We are new to the neighborhood and my eight year old son has made a few friends. Its my policy that when he makes a friend, I go over and visit with the parents. I like to know where he is and what kind of people he is interacting with. So, hes got this friend with a pool and he goes over to swim about three times a week. I met the kid and his mom. Went in the house and back yard. Im thinking they are pretty legit strait forward people. The house is clean and the yard and pool are well maintained. This kids mom, she is a stay at home single mom who is divorced. So, I go over to visit the other night. We are all in the back yard hanging out. I say something like “Oh, these kids are stressing me out. I need to go out front and count to 100 take a breather and say a quick prayer for strength.” She (the other mother) says “Instead of that, you can do what I do. Want a methadone ?” I was completely taken back !!! Blew me right out of the water. I didn’t know what to say. So, I tried my best to look and act casual and was like “No, Im good…. be right back.” I went to the front yard and said a quick prayer, came back quickly and made a lame excuse about how I just got an important call from my husband and we need to be on our way. So, since then I have not let my son play over there with out me being there. And our visits have been really short. When he ask if he can go over there I always say something about how they must be busy or try to change the subject.I cant tell my son that his friends mom offered me drugs. And I don’t want to confront this woman and ask what the hell was she thinking offering me METHADONE. I didn’t even know she was on it in the first place !! Makes me want to know what else is going on. Just not my business.
So, what do I do ? How can I gently tell my son he cant be friends with this kid any more ? I don’t feel right him being around them. And its not that she is using the drug that the doctor gave her. Its that she tried to get me high Im sure. That tells me she gets high. I have never seen her acting weird or anything but I am not stupid either.    Read more...
